In Part I of the Mega-Piston review, we look at 6 popular polycarbonate/nylon pistons and compare their performance when subjected to identical conditions.
Part I: The Polycarbonates Selecting a reinforced piston for your V2/V3 mechbox often leads to quite a bit of confusion, as there are no less than 10 different companies producing pistons, many of which come in different configurations. Despite their differences, the goal of every reinforced piston is the same: to last longer than a stock piston. While this may seem like a simple goal in theory, it can prove to be a difficult target when other factors must be taken into account, such as gearset wear and mechbox durability. In Part 1 of this Mega-Review, we’ll take a look at 6 popular "reinforced" polycarbonate pistons, all tested in the same mechbox, with the same parts, and see how well they held up. Later in Part 2, we’ll compare the remaining 3 pistons with full metal teeth, meant for extreme power upgrades and see how they compare.
