Page 7 of 17 Candidate 6: Systema Polycarbonate Piston
Systema's "Red" piston has been the subject of much controversy, with various claims of manufacturing defects leveled by end users and counter accusations of incompetent installation by Systema. Despite the differneces in opinion, there's no arguing with the red pistons unique design departures: a hexagonal barrel and disjointed guide rails with grooves. The advantages of a hexagonal barrel is unclear, but disjoint guide rails with grooves may serve to reduce overall piston weight as well as aid in retaining lubrication. Cursory examination shows no visible molding lines.

The molded surface is very rough to the touch. The hexagonal barrel and disjointed guide rails are clearly visible in the photo above.
